This course is aimed at those in the health care sector and covers prescriptions, the supply, storage and disposal of medication and the safe administration of medication, including record-keeping and the audit processes.
This qualification is designed for those who wish to develop their understanding of the safe handling of medicines.
students are required to successfully complete four mandatory units.
- Unit 01 Understand medication and prescriptions (three credits)
- Unit 02 Supply, storage and disposal of medication (three credits)
- Unit 03 Understand the requirements for the safe administration of medication (five credits)
- Unit 04 Record-keeping and audit processes for medication (four credits)
You will be issued with an Induction Workbook during your first discussion with your tutor; this workbook will determine whether you are suitable for the course. No specific prior learning requirements, although beneficial to have already achieved a Level 1 qualification in a health or health and social care related area. Anyone interested in working or already working in care would benefit from this course.

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care
This course is distance learning. Assessment is by successful completion of all units in the workbook supplied which is then internally and externally moderated before certification.
Approximately 140 hours study. No lessons but there is support from the specialist tutor available if required. Study will be home-based and at the student's discretion within the timeframe stipulated by tutor.
Students do not have to be in current work in this sector.
