This professional qualification is for those working in, or wishing to work within electrical/electronic engineering. It is a day release course which provides a nationally-recognised qualification that offers career progression for those already in employment. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required by the sector with national recognition by employers.
A professional electronics CAD software package (Proteus) is used in many of the subjects to give students the opportunity to explore circuit action by highly visual simulation, before testing the real thing. In digital electronics students use modern Programmable Logic Devices to implement and test their designs.
The Project/Engineering Design unit gives students an opportunity to design and implement a solution to an engineering problem of special interest to them.
Students must have completed the HNC in an engineering discipline.
Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Students are assessed continually throughout the course, normally via written assignments. Some assignments may be in the form of a test.
An additional two to three hours a week is required for work outside of class.
The course is aimed at those already in employment in the electronics industry, but such employment is not an essential requirement to benefit from the course. The course does not involve work placement.
Students may progress to a BSc or possibly MSc at university or Degree apprenticeship.
