This course provides students wishing to join the construction industry as carpenters with the basic knowledge, understanding and skills to become qualified within carpentry and joinery.

This entry level award will give you a solid foundation in Carpentry and prepare you to take further qualifications to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding within Carpentry & Joinery industry.

You will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:

  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Information, quantities and communication
  • Construction technology
  • Construct woodworking joints
  • Fit architrave and skirting
  • Fit ironmongery to an internal door

Entry Requirements

Students who have not yet achieved grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English, will study Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English as part of their course.


No prior skills needed because all training is given during the course.


Entry level award in Carpentry & Joinery.


Assessment includes coursework, oral examination, practical examination and written examination.

Home Study

Homework may be given prior to any end of unit tests.

Work Placement

A short work placement will be organised and undertaken as part of the entry level award in Carpentry.


Carpentry Level 1.

Fees and Additional Costs

Student may be required to purchase safety boots and glasses.

Additional Information

All tools and equipment will be available during the course to allow students to complete successfully.
