Overview

A perfect course if you are looking to pursue a career as an electrician.

The certificate will suit students who want to learn the basics of electro-technical principles and practice. It allows students to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the electro-technology sector. This is a qualification that tests both practical and knowledge-based skills in a realistic working environment.

The qualification covers topics which include:

This qualification comprises of knowledge and performance units which between them cover: health, safety and environmental considerations, organising and overseeing the work environment,
terminating and connecting conductors to meet BS7671, inspection, testing and commissioning; fault diagnosis and rectification, electrical scientific principles,
and electrical design;

Entry Requirements

Students will need level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations. Four GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English, or a vocational qualification at pass or above, and Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2.

Skills

Ideally students would have completed a Level 2 electrical course and have undertaken a technical subject at school. Use of basic tools and some hand skills would be useful.

Qualifications

Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Level 3

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments and tests.

Home Study

Students are expected to carry out some self study, typically six hours per week, and are expected to complete any work that has not been completed during lesson times.

Work Placement

There is an element of work experience within this qualification. The expectation is that students will fulfil a work placement.

Progression

Full time employment as an electrical improver or a L3 apprenticeship in the electrotechnical industry.

Fees and Additional Costs

If you are over 18 there will be a registration fee of £170.00 if you have not previously registered with the exam board. Additional costs may be required for the industry specific text books. Details will be given at interview. Students are required to purchase safety boots to be worn during workshop based lessons. Additional costs will also be incurred for exam resits
