If you would like to become a Joiner in the world of construction but don't yet have the skills, our carpentry & joinery course will show you the way and help you carve a career in construction.

This course provides you with the basic knowledge, understanding and skills to become qualified within carpentry and joinery.

This level 1 Diploma will give you a solid foundation in Carpentry and prepare you to take further qualifications to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding within Carpentry & Joinery industry.

You will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:

  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Information, quantities and communication
  • Construction technology You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:
  • Producing woodworking joints
  • Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools
  • Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools

Entry Requirements

Students must have minimum GCSEs passes at grade 3 or above, including Maths and English. Students who have not yet achieved grade 4 in Maths and English, will study Functional Skills or GCSEs as part of their course.


No prior skills needed because all training is given during the course.


Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (Construction) Level 1


Throughout this course, you will complete a range of practical, hands-on assessments in the workshop to build up your individual portfolio. You will also take some multiple choice exams covering Health and Safety, Construction Technology, and questions relating to carpentry & joinery.

Home Study

At times you will be required to take work home and learn, this will be directed by your teacher.

Work Placement

A short work placement will be organised and undertaken as part of studies in carpentry & joinery.


On completion students have the opportunity to progress and further enhance their skills & knowledge in Carpentry and Joinery. Experienced Joiners can expect to earn over
