Start using spreadsheets or improve your existing skills. This course is designed for people who use Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet packages and would like to know how to get more from the programmes.
Over the duration of the course, the following is covered:
- Working with dates, times and currencies
- Using basic formulas and functions (inc. SUM, AVERAGE and COUNT)
- Using advanced formulas and functions (inc. IF, VLOOKUP)
- Managing multiple worksheets
- Managing and analysing data using pivot tables
- Using advanced formatting techniques

In the case of cancellation, enrolled students will be notified approximately 1 week before the start date.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although students should feel comfortable working with office software.
Some basic understanding of computer use including accessing programmes and opening and saving files.
This course contains a short accredited qualification, which consists of planning and carrying out several different IT projects using a range of taught skills. Students keep a portfolio and photographic evidence of work which will be assessed internally by Newbury College and also externally via the awarding body. Upon successful completion of the qualification, students are awarded the Level one Award in Learning, Employability and Progression for IT Skills.
Students' work is assessed by the tutor throughout the course and progress will be discussed with each student.
One or two hours per week would be sufficient to complete homework.
Students do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.
Students can progress on to another computing course or a business related Distance Learning course.
