Overview

This one-year course develops an understanding of working in a childcare environment, childcare within the local community, practical aspects of caring for children and employability /progression opportunities in childcare

The course is made up of 14 units of work that include child development, craft activities, play and leisure, communication and preparing for next steps. There is also the opportunity to undertake work experience to use the skills you will develop through your course. The course also covers personal development with a focus on employability and life skills.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSE passes at grade 2 or above, preferably to include Maths and English, or a vocational qualification at pass or above, and Functional Skills Maths and English preferably at Entry Level 3.

Skills

Students need to be positive about working with children and young people and have a caring and practical approach to work.

Qualifications

NCFE Level 1 Diploma in Caring for Children

Assessment

This course is continually assessed using various methods including the completion of assignments.

Home Study

A minimum of two hours per week as appropriate.

Work Placement

Work experience is in a block week over the year.

Progression

L2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner

Fees and Additional Costs

We ask that students contribute towards enrichment activities. This enables students to take part in fun activities that support the course and encourages team building.

Additional Information

Students are required to wear uniform when on work placement and the process for collecting this uniform will be explained at induction. We encourage student feedback and good attendance at review evenings.
