Overview

Daunted at the prospect of cooking different types of fish and seafood? Then spend a day learning how to handle, prepare and cook a range of seafood. Learn some handy tips and recipes to gain the confidence to cook seafood at home. Students should bring the following to the session: Tupperware for food and apron, ingredients and special requirements will be discussed with students closer to the time of the workshop.

This course will cover the following: Ceviche Prawns Mussels Whole trout Skate

Course Content: We will start with filleting and preparing a fish from scratch. All of your inhibitions about handling fish will be overcome by the end of this activity! You will cook it to perfection so that the skin is crispy and the fish gently falls away from the bones. Then we will prepare the ultimate fresh fish dish, Peruvian ceviche with a kick of aji amarillo. Following this we will encounter the completely different texture of a skate fish where we will learn to cook this en papillote. We will also de-vein and cook whole prawns in a tasty butter and learn how to cook mussels in a Roquefort sauce.

In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.

There are no specific skills required for this course, although students should have an interest in cooking.

Qualifications

This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

Assessment

Assessment is informal and will include group discussion, tutor observation, peer and self assessment, review and question and answer.

Home Study

This is a one day course, therefore no homework will be set.

Work Placement

Students do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.

Progression

Students can progress onto a number of other cooking classes including: Quick and Simple Meals, Easter Baking, Mexican Street Food, Bread Making and many more.

Fees and Additional Costs

The price below includes an additional £5 materials fee, which covers the cost of materials used during the session. Students will be required to purchase some of their own ingredients.
