This has been developed for first line managers and supervisors who have responsibility for a well-defined area of activity. This qualification is aimed at giving junior managers the communication and motivational skills that enhance their operational efficiency.

Designed for professionals who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity, and who wish to build on their existing management capabilities, this management course focuses on the development of specific leadership skills. The course will enable you to: Understand your role as a first line manager Understand who your stakeholders are and what they need Develop plans to meet the needs of your existing and potential stakeholders Understand the need to develop and maintain working relationships Be able to manage team performance Understand methods of identifying and supporting the performance of your team members

Entry Requirements

Students must have successfully completed the L3 Award in First Line Management before starting this programme. It will be expected that you have a good command of English and Maths and therefore should hold a minimum of a Level 2 qualification


It is advisable that you are in a junior management position or an experienced team leader looking for promotion or have the opportunity to take on this role to support this qualification


CMI L3 Certificate in First Line Management


Assessment will by a mix of assignment work, worksheets and project work. Assignments could involve: individual research, group work, practical activities, oral and visual presentations. You need to be prepared to give feedback on the performance of your peers and accept their feedback and reflect upon it. Your tutor will assess you work against the awarding body criteria and your work may also be requested to be checked by the awarding body.

Home Study

Students will be expected to complete research and work outside of class time. Learners should expect to study approximately 6 hours per week in addition to class time

Work Placement

This course will relate to working situations therefore being in employment and in a team leading or junior management role ( or access to take on this role) is advisable


Learners could progress on to other Level 3 or 4 business, leadership or management programmes

Fees and Additional Costs

If you are over 18 there will be a registration fee of £25.00 if you have not previously registered with the exam board. In addition to tuition fees learners will need to pay awarding body entry fees. You may also wish to become a member of CMI
