Discover the wonderful craft of needle felting. Suitable for complete beginners, this workshop aims to provide students with the basic skills required to make their own needle felted projects.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and rules regarding social distancing this course will be taught remotely. The course tutor will provide live teaching sessions online using Microsoft Teams. Lessons will be scheduled at the times indicated below. Learners will also be able to access a wide range of College services including Moodle, Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Drive) and Microsoft Teams to support online learning. Induction sessions will be offered prior to the start of the course, to allow learners to familiarise themselves with the online learning platforms. Learner handbooks and user guides will also be provided.

Discover how to make a variety of different craft projects, including 3D sculptures, bags, purses, socks and wall art, from nothing more than wool roving and a needle! No sewing required.

This workshop will cover:

  • An introduction to needle felting, tools and techniques
  • Guidance on different wool roving and felting needles.
  • Step by step instructions on how to shape and form a 3D animal.
  • Tutor demonstrations and step-by-step instructions on how to shape the wool and add extra roving to create realistic body shapes and how to use fine needling skills to create intricate details.

The wool roving, glass eyes and all the basic tools required for the session will be provided, along with a range of different felting tools for learners to try. It is advised that learners purchase the following items themselves to bring to the session:

  • Needle felting needles (these can be purchased from any craft shop, or on Amazon) it is recommended to buy a small packet, rather than just one, as they can sometimes break.
  • Finger and thumb protectors (Amazon sell these specifically for needle felting).
