A Variety Performance at Newbury College

Created on 7.7.2010

Performing Arts learners held a spectacular evening of entertainment at their end of year showcase, with over 100 invited guests and family and friends attending the College’s Monks Lane Campus.

First and second year students took to the stage to perform a variety of diverse pieces to display their talents. The evening was packed full of drama, singing and dancing acts which had all been choreographed and improvised throughout the academic year.

During the evening, the audience were particularly impressed by several monologues, a comedy sketch, a rap and solo singers, including songs like ‘Ain’t no Sunshine’ and ‘Over the Rainbow’. First year students Victoria Kingston and Joshua Cook performed an urban dance medley, which included pieces based on the ‘Glee’ soundtrack. Victoria commented, “I have always enjoyed performing, so I decided this course would be perfect for me. It’s great to be learning different styles of acting every day and I can’t wait to continue onto the second year!”

Performing Arts Variety Performance

This end of year performance was a culmination of hard work and enthusiastic rehearsals. Recently, the students were commissioned by trading standards to devise a radio advert to heighten drink awareness in the area. This enabled the students to not only work towards a real brief, but also experience working with professionals in the field before beginning a university course or career.

Vicky Scott, Course Leader of Performing Arts said, “The showcase gave the learners a platform on which to perform their audition pieces in front of a live audience before they embark on real-life, casting interviews. The College wishes all second year students the best of luck for the future; whether it be furthering their studies at University or venturing into full time work. I sincerely look forward to seeing them on the stage and screen!”
