Newbury College Hosts Care Employer Forums

Newbury College recently held two employer-focussed forums for Childcare and Health and Social Care. These events offered free, friendly and open discussions to those within the Care Sector and provided a chance to network with like-minded people and find out about government funded training opportunities.
Emily Chandler, Newbury College Business Development Executive, organised the events, which were a huge success and attended by a range of companies in and around Berkshire. Emily commented, “One of the main objectives of the forums was to make local employers aware of the recent changes in government funding. These changes mean that training can be more affordable for small, local businesses and it was helpful to share best practice in fulfilling organisational needs in today’s economic climate.”
Kay Clark, Manager of Acres of Fun Day Nursery, was one of the attendees and said, “We are very excited about the future funding changes and looking forward to maximising the benefits of training by working with Newbury College.”
Emily Chandler added, “The feedback from each representative was invaluable to the business team and we appreciated the time employers had taken to attend the events.”
Members of the College Child Care team were on hand to discuss National Vocational Qualifications, Distance Learning Courses and Apprenticeships. The event was also a chance for the Business Development Team to find out what employers would like to see from Newbury College in the future and provided valuable feedback to the College on developing provision.
Phil Davey, Curriculum Manager for the Care Sector at Newbury College, added, “What became clear through the discussions, was that just a simple addition to a curriculum programme can make a big difference to the impact the training has in the workplace.”
