Katie Chandler from St Bartholomew’s School Newbury spent a week at Newbury College’s Marketing Department for her work experience placement, which was organised through the Education Business Partnership (EBP).
The Education Business Partnership West Berkshire (EBP West Berkshire) is a local charity based at New Greenham Park, which promotes and organise a wide rang of innovative work related learning activities for young people in education within West Berkshire. The Partnership works with West Berkshire schools alongside local companies in order to provide an insight into the world of work. This provides the students with opportunities to gain new skills, improve on existing talents and also see the link between education and their possible futures in the work place.
Una Carr, Marketing manager has been delighted to be part of the Work Experience programme and said “I think it is really important and worthwhile for any organisation to spend time nurturing up and coming young talent. Young people are the future and I believe it can be extremely beneficial both for the individual and the organisations to invest time in working and developing the skills of the next generation of employees.”

Katie spent the week at the College where she was involved with a variety of tasks, these included using the programme ‘Photoshop’ to experiment with designs, redesigning the College’s ‘Wall of Fame’ press board, using Excel for data entry and producing graphs ready for reports, updating the College CRM system along with answering the phone and general office duties.
The week also included a visit to the Newbury Weekly News where she attended a meeting and was given a tour, which included a talk on the printing process for the newspaper. Katy also paid a visit to the new radio station for Newbury, ‘Newbury Sound’ where she was interviewed in the studio by Helen Ainsworth about her work experience week.
Katie had a great week at the Marketing Department and said, “I’ve really enjoyed my week at Newbury College working in the Marketing Team. I have managed to develop new skills like photo shop and Excel and overall just really enjoyed my week with everyone. The tour of Newbury Weekly News and the radio interview were my highlights. I feel the week has helped me confirm I would like to pursue a career in Marketing / Graphic Design. ”
