Newbury Dancer Achieves Full Scholarship to London Performing Arts College

Talented Performing Arts student Liam Lockhart, who has completed his final year at Newbury College with flying colours, has also achieved a full scholarship place at ‘The Centre’ – a renowned Performing Arts College in London.
This September Liam will go on to study a three-year full time degree course in Performing Arts and specialise in movement. Building upon the dance foundations learnt at Newbury College, Liam will have the opportunity to gain the certificate in Dance Education in three genres whilst gaining his degree qualification.
Liam is thrilled with the news and said, “I had never thought about Performing Arts until I looked through the College prospectus. Although I enjoyed singing and acting at school I didn’t know which career path to take, so I decided to continue studying something I enjoyed. Being exposed to dance lessons on the course has made me determined to work in the West End eventually, and achieving this scholarship is hopefully the next step on the ladder.”
Only a handful of full scholarships are awarded by The Centre annually, so auditioning is particularly demanding. Choosing from his portfolio of performances learnt and choreographed at Newbury College, Liam chose a street dance, a contemporary dance, a ballet piece, a song and two monologues to showcase his talent at the audition.
Vicki Scott, Performing Arts Tutor is full of praise for Liam who has worked so hard, she explains, “Liam has been enthusiastic throughout the course and deserves to go far! I am so proud of him and I know his class-mates are equally as pleased. Liam is definitely an inspiration to all of our up and coming students and hopefully we can invite him back in years to come when he is a fully-fledged professional performer.”
Liam ended his course on a high when he was personally asked by Newbury College Principal, Anne Murdoch to perform at an intimate presentation to dignitaries at the College’s 60th Anniversary celebration event.

Combining technical skills together with an understanding of employment opportunities and working practices within the performance industry, courses are delivered from Level 1 to National Diploma.
