We will support you in gaining a work placement alongside your course in order to gain experience within industry but to also help build your career. Investigating opportunities prior to commencing your programme will be an advantage.

  • Entry Requirements

Ideally you will have a GCSE grade 4 above in PE or Sport and grade 4 or above, in Maths and English but an interest in Sport and a positive attitude to learning is a must. If a grade 4 has not been obtained in English and Maths then you will continue to study these alongside your sports pathway programme.

These programmes are ideal for those that love Sport and like a challenge. This includes taking part in both practical and theory-based lessons in order to grow the skillset needed to be successful within Sport or a sports/fitness based environment.

Participation in school or extra curricular sports programmes are an advantage but a passion for sport, coaching, fitness or spectator safety will be the main skills that support your development on these programmes.

  • Qualification

Qualifications gained will be dependent on your starting level and selected Sports Pathway. The Programme Leader will discuss these options with you before the start of your programme.

  • Progression

There are progression options available in Personal Training and a HNC in Community Coaching for England delivered at University Centre Newbury. You'll gain UCAS points in order to support your progression to Higher Education or gain qualifications that will support your applications to work in industry related jobs.

  • Assessment

Course work will be assessed by assignments, which include practical work, projects, presentations, reports and group work. You will produce portfolios of work which will be assessed against the criteria for the units that are set out by the awarding body guidelines. Some of the units may require exam type assessments also.

  • Home Study

You will be expected to spend additional study hours in the Student Hub and/or at home in order to complete research and develop your understanding of the units being covered. This may vary week to week based on the criteria set out by the awarding body.

  • Work Placement

You will be encouraged and supported with the finding of a work placement. This will enable you to gain subject specific experience to build your CV and develop whilst learning and gaining your qualifications. This may well be through current links that the Sports Department have such as, local sports teams and clubs, gym and Personal Training companies and major sporting facilities.

  • Fees and Additional Costs

There may be a need to purchase sports clothing and for additional trips costs dependant on the course plan and opportunities to visit sites, facilities and venues.
