Automotive Body Repair, IMI Diploma Level 1 (Thatcham)
OverviewThis course is aimed at full time students who would like to gain practical experience in automotive body repair. Uniquely this course is run in conjunction with Thatcham Automotive Academy, where students will spend 2 weeks at a time, followed by 1 week at Newbury College learning key skills. This course is delivered in 14.5 hours per week. This course is eligible for SFA or EFA funding support.
The course is approximately 60 % theory and 40% practical, and modules include the following topics:
- Vehicle structures & body repair materials
- Removing and refitting mechanical and trim components
- Vehicle preparation and paint application
- Exterior Body panel repair
- Steering and suspension components & maintenance
ProgressionSuccessful learners will have the opportunity to progress onto a higher full time qualification or if they gain employment within the body repair industry, they can undertake an Apprenticeship programme.
AssessmentThe practical elements will be assessed by your tutor, where you will receive feedback on your skills levels and progress. The theory elements/topics will be accessed through you completing written tests, where you will receive feedback from your tutor.
Entry RequirementsIdeally learners would have achieved a minimum grade D in Maths, English and Science, however a full initial assessment will be carried out within the interview process.
Home StudyThere is little additional work outside of classes,
Work PlacementYou do not need to be in relevant work as this is a full time course.
Additional CostsThere are no additional costs but students will need to provide overalls and suitable footwear for the practical sessions.
