Spanish Intermediate Year 1, NOCN Award
Overview
This course is designed for those who have completed the Spanish Improvers course or have already acquired a good knowledge of Spanish and are able to communicate using the past and present tense. Learners need to bring the following to the first class: a pen and paper. Audio Material for home use is optional.On enrolment learners will be given the option to either work towards a nationally recognised qualification (NOCN Award in Language Skills), or take the course solely for leisure purposes. The NOCN Award in Language Skills is based around a collation of work in a portfolio and does not consist of a formal examination.
The language skills for everyday situations will be consolidated and expanded.
The following topics will be covered during the course;
- Everyday activities
- Shopping
- Personal information
- Transport
- Accommodation
- Health.
Grammar will include the use of past and future tenses, as well as the present tense. Structures will be expanded, using adverbs and adjectives, to enable learners to express themselves more accurately.
The language skills to be developed are speaking, listening, reading and writing. These will be practised in a variety of classroom activities including work in pairs and groups, listening to CDs, use of interactive media, reading brochures and writing notes, emails or short letters.
*PLEASE NOTE- This course running is subject to receiving a minimum of 8 enrolments. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
For those learners choosing to take the qualification option, and are successful, will receive the NOCN Entry Level 3 Award in Language Skills.Assessment
Progress on this course will be tested through answering handouts, informal quizzes/tests, observation, peer and lecturer feedback, presentation, audio recording and marked written work.NOCN learners will be assessed on their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.Entry Requirements
Learners need to have studied Spanish part-time for a minimum of 2 years or equivalent. Learners should be confident in the past, present and future tenses.Qualifications
For those learners choosing to take the qualification option, and are successful, will receive the NOCN Certificate in Language Skills.Home Study
Homework (reading and assignments) is essential and learners will benefit from undertaking home study of approximately 1 hour per week. NOCN learners are expected to do 2 hours of homework each week and keep a log of activities.Skills
Work Placement
Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.Additional Costs
