Spanish Beginners

Overview

This course is designed as a leisure course only, aimed at learners with no previous experience in Spansih, or for those who have become a bit 'rusty'. Learners need to bring the following to the first class: a pen and paper.

This course is designed as a short term leisure course, and is aimed at any learner wishing to learn Spanish in a fun and relaxed environment.

The following topics will be covered on this course;
- Personal
- Home and family information
- Asking for directions in towns
- Shopping
- Eating out and booking accommodation.

Grammar structures at a basic level will be taught, focusing on the present tense.
The main language skills to be developed are speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Understanding written Spanish is based on practical items such as notices, leaflets and signs.

By the end of the course learners will have the ability and confidence to cope with everyday situations such as ordering a meal, booking a hotel room and exchanging basic personal information by concentrating on simple sentences, short questions and responses and grammatical structures. Much use will be made of role play in small groups.

*PLEASE NOTE- The running of this course is subject to receiving sufficient enrolment numbers. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.

Progression

Learners can progress onto the 'Spanish Improvers' class, or take the Spanish evening class and study for the NOCN Award in Language Skills.

Assessment

Progress on this course will be tested through answering handouts, quizzes/informal tests, observation, peer and lecturer feedback, marked written work and presentation.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although learners should possess a good level of basic literacy.

Qualifications

This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

Home Study

Homework (reading) is essential and learners will benefit from undertaking home study of up to 1 hour per week.

Work Placement

Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.

Additional Costs

Learners will need to buy a course book and this will be discussed at the first class.
