Hairdressing VRQ Diploma Level 2
Overview
This is a one year course and is intended as a progression from NVQ/VRQ Level 1 .It is for those students wishing to gain a well recognised qualification; those wishing to add to existing qualifications or those wishing to up-date their current skills. Level 2 will lead to junior positions within the industry. This course is delivered in 14.5 hours per week. This course is eligible for SFA or EFA funding support.Units to complete: Health and Safety, Create an image based on a theme, Display stock to promote sales, Shampooing and Conditioning, Client consultation, Cutting Techniques, Promote products and services to clients, Salon Reception duties, Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work, Working in the hair industry, Styling Men's Hair, Styling Women's Hair, Colour and Lighten Hair, The Art of dressing Hair
Progression
The achievement of level 2 will offer you progression to level 3 hairdressing.Assessment
You will be assessed through a combination of the following:Observation of practical work on clients, Project, assignments and case studies,written and oral questioning and building a portfolio of evidence to be submitted for assessment.Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grades A* - D including English and Science, or Level 1 Hairdressing (with Functional Skills Level 1 or Basic Skills Diagnostic Assessment Results at Level 1) plus a good school report are required. Mature students are welcome to apply as work experience will be counted as an asset and will be discussed at interview. Students should be excellent communicators not only with friends and people they know well, but also with people from every age group, ethnic origin, social background, occupation and gender.Qualifications
VTCT Hairdressing VRQ Level 2 DiplomaHome Study
A minimum of 6 hours a week is expected to be allowed for home study.Skills
Students have assignment work as part of their course so basic key board skills and access to a computer at home will be an advantage. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential, plus the ability to talk to people.Work Placement
There is a mandatory one week block placement to attend. You are expected to act professionally at all times.Additional Costs
There is additional kit to purchase for Level 2 to supplement your Level 1 kit. The full cost for a Level 2 Kit is approx 200 (direct entry at this level). Uniform costs approximately 50.
