Bricklaying for Beginners
Overview
This course is designed as a basic introduction to bricklaying for those wishing to carry out repairs and basic renovations around the home. Learners should wear old clothing to classes and steel toe cap footwear. Learners should bring a pencil and notepad to class.This course is designed as a follow on from the 1 day 'Bite Size Bricklaying' course, however complete beginners are also welcome. This course is set in our purpose built construction workshop and contains some theory, as well as practical work.
The course will cover the following;
- Picking up Mortar and laying an even 10mm spread
- Building walls using Stretcher bond, Flemish bond, and English bon
- Understanding tool identification
- Identifying correct mortar ratios
- Pointing methods
- Accurately cutting brick and setting out.
- Workshop health and safety
*PLEASE NOTE- The running of this course is subject to receiving sufficient enrolment numbers. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
Learners can progress onto Professional or qualification Bricklaying courses.Assessment
Assessment will be through tutor observation and feedback.Entry Requirements

Work Placement
Learners do not need to be in relevant work to enrol on the course.Additional Costs
