BTEC Extended Diploma in IT
Overview
For those who wish to progress to working in the IT industry, this is a two-year full-time Level 3 vocational course, including the Subsidiary Diploma for IT which is studied during the first six months. The course includes learning about computer hardware, software and networks thereby providing a broad grounding in the fundamental elements of computing. Progression from this course is either to Higher Education or a career in the IT industry. This course is delivered in 14.5 hours per week. This course is eligible for SFA or EFA funding support.The course consists of study units including computer architecture, computer programming, web design and development, computer networks, information systems and database application design and development amongst others, totalling 18 units. Each unit carries 10 credits towards the full qualification of 180 credits.
Progression
There is progression to the HNC in Computing, University or a career in the IT industry.Assessment
Each unit is assessed primarily via a series of coursework assignments. There are no national exams.Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade C or above including English or a Merit in a related BTEC Level 2 courseQualifications

An average of 8 hours per week. Some weeks may be more, others less.Skills
A keen interest in a career as an IT professional.Work Placement
To be successful on this course you must enjoy computing, attend all classes, be well motivated and have a will to achieve. A work placement is not currently required to pass the course.Additional Costs
Each student receives 10 printing credit per year, additional credit can be bought. From time to time there will be trips and the student will be expected to pay for additional transport and any other costs.
