Further Computing for Beginners
Overview
This course is a progression from 'Explore Computing for Beginners' or for those with basic understanding of computers. Learners should bring the following to each session; a pen, notebook and memory stick.This course teaches you how to use your computer to get organised, use search engines to find anything you want on the Internet, protect yourself against viruses and spyware, and recognise the signs of danger when surfing the Internet.
Now you have mastered the simple tasks of using a mouse and keyboard, this course will prepare you for using your computer to go online, find and store information, email family and friends or stay in touch using social networking such as Face book and Twitter.
Buying and selling or banking on-line does not have to be the daunting experience some people fear. This course will show you how to stay safe on-line and protect yourself against malicious attempts to steal your information or identity, all without breaking the bank.
You will learn how to:
- Organise the storage space on your computer
- Use your email safely
- Recognise and avoid malware
- Safely download free software
- Deal with forms when online
- Find hidden information on the Internet
- Stay anonymous online
- Use social networking (Facebook, Twitter).
*PLEASE NOTE- This course running is subject to receiving a minimum of 8 enrolments. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
Learners can progress onto the 'Microsoft Office for Beginners course', or other computer/ internet related workshops and courses. The tutor will be able to give advice on the correct path of progression for the individual.Assessment
Learners will be assessed by tutor observation and one-to-one and group feedback and review.Entry Requirements
Learners should have completed the 'Explore Computing for Beginners' course before enrolling on this course, or they should know how to use the mouse and keyboard and have a basic understanding of the behaviour of Microsoft Windows.Qualifications
This course does not lead to a formal qualification.Home Study
