Understanding the Safe Handling of Medicines QCF Level 2 - Distance Learning

Overview

Gain underpinning knowledge, and the opportunity to demonstrate skills required to safely handle and administer medicines in their workplace. The duration of the course is 110 guided learning hours. Study is at your own pace, normally 4-5 months. This course is Distance Learning, your tutor will visit you either at your place of work, or at Newbury College if you are not in employment for the induction.

This qualification aims to provide the learner with the essential underpinning knowledge to safely handle and administer medicines in their workplace. It is ideal for those who are already employed in a health and social care context, who wish to study the programme as part of their own continuous professional development.
The qualification is mapped to aspects of the knowledge outcomes for Clinical Health Skills and Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards as well as the Skills for Care knowledge set for medication and may contribute towards parts of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.
As a distance learning course a specialist tutor will be assigned to you for the duration of your course, which will provide individual support and guidance.
The programme has four mandatory units:
Unit 01: Understand medication and prescriptions (Credit value: 3)
Unit 02: Supply, storage and disposal of medication (Credit value: 3)
Unit 03: Understand the requirements for the safe administration of medication (Credit value: 4)
Unit 04: Record-keeping and audit processes for medication administration and storage (Credit value: 3)

Progression

Mental Health Awareness level 2, Equality & Diversity level 2

Assessment

Assessment will be through completion of four end-of-unit assessments, found in the workbooks. These assessments are tutor marked and moderated by the awarding body.

Entry Requirements

Candidate must be capable of studying at level 2. Suitable for all adults over 19 years of age.
