Digital DSLR Photography
Overview
This course covers the basic functions of: Digital DSLR cameras, studio photography, Photoshop and composition. Suitable for complete beginners and those wishing to build upon their existing skills. Learners will need to bring their own digital SLR camera. They should also bring a ring binder folder for handouts and a notepad and pen for taking notes.This course covers the basic functions of: Digital DSLR cameras, studio photography, Photoshop and composition. Supported by examples from the tutor and other photographic works. Techniques and equipment are explored through mini projects based on different themes each week. It is expected that at the end of each 8 week term learners will have developed, refined, produced and printed a series of photographs based on set themes.
The following will be covered in each term;
Term 1
Theme: Portraiture
Basic SLR camera techniques - Aperture, shutter speed. Lighting studio techniques, composition, Photoshop- cropping, sharpening and layers.
Term 2
Theme: Documentary
Basic SLR camera techniques - Flash, ISO. Decisive moment, composition, Photoshop - black and white and levels.
Term 3
Theme: Photomontage
Basic SLR camera techniques - double exposure, experimental techniques. Composition, Photoshop - cutting, layers, colour adjust.
Term 4
Theme: Location
Basic SLR camera techniques - aperture, shutter speed. Tripods, composition, Photoshop - black and white, cropping and levels.
NB - A trip within the Newbury area will be arranged during Term 4.
*PLEASE NOTE- This course running is subject to receiving a minimum of 8 enrolments. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
Each term of this course covers new subjects and techniques; therefore learners can progress throughout the year. Each new term is also open to new learners.Assessment
Assessment on this course will be purely informal, through tutor and peer feedback and review.Entry Requirements
Open to those with little or no experience in digital photography.Qualifications
This course does not lead to a formal qualification.Home Study
Learners will be expected to take photographs outside of the session times and bring these to class with them each week.Skills
Work Placement
Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.Additional Costs
