An Introduction to the Internet for the Terrified

Overview

This workshop is designed as a gentle introduction for those learners with absolutely no prior experience of the internet, who wish to learn in a relaxed and informal environment. Learners will need to bring a pen and notebook with them if they wish to take notes.

This course is designed as a gentle introduction to the internet for learners who have absolutely no experience and do not know where to begin.
The workshop will cover the following;
- An introduction to the internet, how it started and its use in modern society
- Getting started
- Search engines
- Internet shopping
- Email, how to create an email account and how to construct and send emails
- Safety tips for using the internet at home.

*PLEASE NOTE- The running of this course is subject to receiving sufficient enrolment numbers. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.

Progression

Learners can progress onto other internet related workshops, or the longer 'Explore Computing for Beginners', or 'Microsoft Office for Beginners'. The tutor will be able to advise the correct progression path for the individual learner.

Assessment

Learners will be assessed through tutor observation, one-to-one and group feedback.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Qualifications

This course does not lead to a formal qualifiation.

Skills

Learners should have at least a very basic knowledge of computers, and using a mouse and keyboard.

Work Placement

Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.
