Jewellery Making - Basic Techniques

Overview

A fun and friendly introductory session for anyone who has always wanted to make their own jewellery but didn't know where to start! You will make unique items of jewellery using easy-to-learn techniques.

We will look at choosing beads to create a pleasing design, followed by basic techniques that can be used for assembling earrings, bag charms, keyrings and simple bracelets.
We will cover the use of different tools, materials and finishings.
This will be a friendly and informal class with demonstrations and individual help. Everyone will go home with a number of finished items.

Learning Outcomes:
- How to choose and coordinate different beads.
- Methods for using jewellery tools
- How to assemble and finish items of jewellery

Learners should bring the following to the workshop: Pen or pencil, notebook and glasses if you need them for close-up work

*PLEASE NOTE - The running of this course is subject to receiving sufficient enrolment numbers. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.

Progression

Learners can progress to any number of other jewellery workshops at Newbury College.

Assessment

Assessment will take the form of group discussion and individual feedback.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Qualifications

This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

Work Placement

Learners do not need to be in relevant work to enrol on this course.

Additional Costs

There will be a £2.50 materials fee payable to the tutor on the day to cover the cost of the materials used.
