Manipulating the Clay Surface
Overview
This is a tutor led, experimental course, exploring the different ways of manipulating the surface finish of clay, both before and after the initial firing. Learners will be required to bring the following materials to class: sketchbook, pencils/ colouring crayons, pens, masking tape and scissors.Term 1 of this course will cover: Design and design transfer, creating and using sprigging inlay work and sgraffito.
Term 2 of this course will cover: In-glaze decoration, glaze on glaze exploration, brushed trailed and sponged slipwork.
Term 3 of this course will cover: Stretching, piercing, manipulation of clay surface.
This course is suitable for students of all levels and abilities. Students will be expected to keep a sketch book of their work.
*PLEASE NOTE- The running of this course is subject to receiving sufficient enrolment numbers. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
Learners can progress onto the 'Creative Clay' course and create projects of their own.Assessment
Progress on this course will be assessed through lecturer feedback, observation and presentation.Entry Requirements

This course does not lead to a formal qualification.Home Study
Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking home study of less than 1 hour per week.Skills
Work Placement
Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.Additional Costs
