Watercolour and Ink Drawing for Beginners
Overview
Over the duration of the course, learners will gain experience in a variety of different watercolour techniques, methods and aids, as well as experiencing ink drawing using a wide range of different drawing subjects. Suitable for complete beginners. Learners will need the following materials for this course: Watercolour pad (140lb) cold press - texture surface, watercolour paints- recommended St Petersburg White Nights paints full pan colours x24- price 19.99- alternatively other good quality watercolour paints will do. Watercolour brushes- 'Major Brushes' online are very good value, most useful sizes are 6, 8 and 14, but sets are also available with 5 brushes. Set of graphite sticks/ pencils- The Works are good value, or W H Smiths. Putty or 'Neady' rubber. Black 'Edding' pens, size 1, 2 and 5- others brands will be OK as long as they are waterproof. Watercolour pencils- The Works, WH Smiths or specialised art shops will stock these. Also required: masking fluid, tissues, Stanley knife and/ or pencil sharpener, sketch book.Over the duration of the course learners will cover a variety of different projects using both watercolour and ink drawing techniques. Projects will include: landscapes, still life, shades of white, portraits (animals, birds, human etc) drawing and wash, ink and wash and much more.
Learners will also cover various different drawing and painting techniques over the duration of the course, such as aids for creating textures, i.e. tissue, salt, Clingfilm, masking fluid, watercolour pencils etc.
*PLEASE NOTE- The running of this course is subject to receiving sufficient enrolment numbers. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
Learners can progress to other art courses (especially watercolour and specific drawing courses) and also qualification courses.Assessment

Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking home study of less than 1 hour per week.Skills
