Acrylics Towards Abstraction (Still Life)
Overview
A fun workshop exploring ways of using simple still life objects as a starting point for creating abstract paintings in an experimental way. Suitable for learners of all levels and abilities. Learners will need to bring the following to the workshop: acrylic paint: (Daler Rowney System 3 or similar):- process yellow (or lemon yellow), Process Cyan (or Pthalo blue), Process Magenta (or Permanent Rose) Titanium White. Empty yoghurt pots, empty jar, kitchen roll, selection of brushes for painting (recommended soft synthetic (size 6 or 7) flat, and one bristle, medium - and any others you may have), apron or old shirt, newspaper, sketchbook or cartridge paper, palette (such as old plate/ tear-off palette/ stay-wet palette - something with a large flat area for mixing)Over the duration of the workshop we will explore ways of creating abstract paintings from recognisable objects. We will work with still life through a series of exercises designed to broaden your ways of seeing and depicting the subject. Experiment in easy to follow stages with materials and techniques looking at line, form and colour to create interesting and dynamic images.
*PLEASE NOTE- This course running is subject to receiving a minimum of 6 enrolments. Newbury College reserve the right to close, cancel or postpone a course if it has not received the minimum required enrolment number by the scheduled start date. In the case of cancellation, enrolled learners will be notified 3 days prior to the start of the course and are entitled to claim for a full refund of their course fees.
Progression
Learners can progress to other art workshops and courses, such as watercolours, mixed media art, acrylics etc.Assessment
Informal assessment will be carried out through group discussion, display of finished work and one to one help.Entry Requirements
