Learning Resource Centre

The LRC is a modern integrated library service combining traditional print resources (books and magazines) and IT based resources. There are study zones for class based work comprising computers and study tables and areas for individual study. The LRC is staffed by two professional librarians and LRC Assistants who are there to support you in your studies.

Location:

The LRC is situated on the first floor of the campus above Learner Services.

Opening Times:

During term-time the LRC is open:

  • 9am to 7:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • 9am and 4pm Wednesday and Friday.

Please note we are closed during the Holidays.

Resources:

  • There are 50 networked computers in the LRC, plus 12 wireless laptops available for use in the LRC. There in one accessible computer workstation and a variety of specialst software

Whats Available:

  • A printer which is a photocopier and scanner and prints in black, white and colour. (All students are given print credit allowance which can be topped up.)
  • Magazines and newspapers are provided to support your studies, many of these have online access via Moodle the college VLE and student network.
  • We have two small group study rooms: Study Room 1 has 3 Computers and an interactive whiteboard so you can practice your presentations; Study Room 2 has 1 computer and video/DVD viewing facilities.
  • Then of course there are the books, videos and DVDs just over 12,000 at the last count. Every subject you study at college will have some books to help with your coursework.
  • Our Fiction stock covers horror, science fiction and fantasty, historical novels, romance and classics. We have Quick Reads and guided readers to encourage reading for pleasure.

Online Resources

Currently we subscribe to twelve online resources and a selection of e-books availble via Moodle. Students at Newbury College have access to these resources, and to the LRC catalogue, via Moodle at home.
